Hi, I'm Debasree...

… your guide on this mixed-media textile art journal journey

After a decade in the IT corporate world, I returned to art and found healing in collage — the quiet joy of bringing fragments together to create something whole. It became a way to slow down, listen inward, and express without needing words.

Since 2016, I’ve had the privilege of teaching nearly 30,000 students worldwide, encouraging artists to trust their intuition and create fearlessly.

My classes are gentle, tactile, and rooted in the belief that creativity should feel calming, soulful, and deeply personal.

Whether you’re a complete beginner or simply looking to reconnect with your creativity, I’m here to guide you through an experience that nourishes both your hands and your heart.

Over 30,000 students have joined my classes. Here's what a few have said:

I joined because I love fabric art, but I left with so much more confidence in my creative process. The intuitive layering approach made everything feel simple and freeing.”

I finally used my fabric scraps instead of just collecting them.”

I always struggled with composition, but the way contrast and layering were explained made everything finally click for me.”

The inspiration behind this class

This class was inspired by my earlier class, Paper Bag Art Books, where I transformed paper bags into handmade art journals using fabric collage techniques. Many people told me they loved the paper bags with fabric collage themselves just as much as the journals.

I wanted to explore what would happen if we kept the paper bag as it is and fully embraced it as a functional object.

Around the same time, I had been working with beautiful fabric bundles by Michelle Cox, filled with textured scraps, vintage linens, and little pieces that felt too special not to create with.

This class combines everything I love — fabric scraps, texture, slow stitching, collage, and creating beauty out of ordinary everyday materials ✨

🚀 More Than A Bag-Making Class

This class is really about learning to see differently.

To see:

  • beauty in scraps
  • texture in imperfection
  • art in everyday materials
  • possibility in what already exists

And perhaps most importantly…

To trust your own creative decisions again!

❓Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have questions? Great – I've got answers for you!

Do I need sewing experience for this class?

No. This class is designed to feel approachable and intuitive. The stitching is simple, expressive, and used more as texture and mark-making rather than precise sewing.

Is this class beginner friendly?

Yes — absolutely. Whether you are new to mixed media, textile collage, or fabric art techniques, the process is broken down in a simple and approachable way.

What kind of fabrics can I use?

You can use almost anything:

  • old linens
  • lace
  • fabric scraps
  • cheesecloth
  • clothing
  • textured fabrics
  • vintage textiles

This class encourages working with materials you already have. Or you can buy Michelle’s fabric bundles.

Do I need expensive supplies?

Not at all. Many of the materials used are simple everyday fabrics and found textiles from around the home.

Will I learn composition techniques?

Yes — but in a very intuitive and non-rigid way. You’ll learn how to work with:

  • contrast
  • texture
  • layering
  • density
  • shape
  • visual balance

without making the process feel overwhelming.

Are the bags sturdy enough to use?

Yes. The bags are lined and assembled to feel durable, functional, and suitable for everyday use.

Is this class focused more on art or functionality?

Both. You’ll create richly textured handmade bags that feel artistic while still being functional and usable.

What makes this class different from other textile art classes?

This class focuses on intuitive creativity, texture, layering, and personal expression rather than rigid techniques or perfection.

The goal is not to make identical projects — it’s to help you create work that feels uniquely yours.

Can I use these techniques in other projects?

Absolutely. The techniques from this class can also be used in:

  • art journals
  • textile collage art
  • mixed media canvases
  • handmade books
  • slow stitching projects

Then this class may feel especially freeing for you.

The process is intentionally intuitive, layered, and exploratory — helping you focus more on texture, experimentation, and creative enjoyment rather than getting everything “right.”
