Do I need previous bookmaking experience?
No. Un-Folding is designed to be approachable even if you’ve never made an artist book before.
Do I need to know how to sew?
No. The book structures themselves are no-sew. Some projects include optional simple stitching as a decorative textile element.
What will I need to make the books?
You’ll need basic art supplies such as paper, paint, gesso, collage materials, fabric and simple bookmaking supplies. Nothing overly complicated. The most important ingredient is a large sheet of paper. You can work with A2 or A3 papers too.
Will I learn more than one type of book?
Yes! You’ll learn 4 different one sheet book structures, creating books with 8, 12, 16 and 24 pages.
Can I use the techniques for my own projects?
Absolutely. The goal isn’t simply to copy the four books. You’ll learn the structures and mixed-media techniques so you can experiment and create your own variations.
Do I have to paint exactly like you?
Not at all. The examples are there to inspire you. You can use your own colours, papers, marks, collage materials and textures.

What size paper do I need?
