100 Days Of Collage (Day 19-27)

Days 19 to 27 of my 100 Days of Collage project are all about Blues.

For this group of collages, I wanted to capture the feeling of looking up at the vast summer sky—the endless blues, the drifting clouds, and that quiet sense of freedom that comes with it.

I started by gathering scraps in shades of blue and brown from my ever-growing collection, picking out old book pages, bits of blue fabric, and soft, airy materials like gauge. I layered them together, letting the textures build naturally, just like the sky layers itself over the earth.

To bring in a sense of grounding, I added real tree branches and roots—because when we look up at the sky, we always see it framed by the landscape around us. The delicate threads, mostly in shades of blue, weave through the pieces, adding movement, like the wind threading its way through the clouds.

This whole process felt like piecing together little fragments of the sky, and I love how they turned out.

Day 19 - Clouds Whisper

19/100 – There’s something so calming about watching clouds drift by, like they’re carrying little secrets on the wind. This piece has that same feeling—soft layers of blue and brown coming together, light and airy but still grounded.

I used a bit of a snippet roll I had made in blue tones, adding texture and movement. It’s simple, quiet, and full of that peaceful sky energy.

Day 20 - Weightless Dreams

20/100 – There’s something about holding on and letting go, the in-between space, where we are tied to something yet longing to drift—just like this branch, wrapped in thread, caught between earth and sky.

I knotted a blue thread around the piece, almost instinctively, as if to keep it from floating away. And yet, the soft cluster of white threads above reminds me—some things aren’t meant to be held too tightly. Some dreams, like clouds, are weightless for a reason.

Day 21 - Cotton Clouds

21/100 – There’s something about watching clouds float by, soft and weightless, ever-changing yet always familiar. This piece is filled with layers of white—fabrics, lace, rice paper—all coming together like cumulus clouds drifting across the sky.

Amidst all this softness, a single wildflower stands as the focal point. It wasn’t always blue, but through the process of geli printing, it took on the color of the sky.

Day 22 - Untold Stories

22/100 – The sky has seen it all—the quiet moments, the whispered dreams, the stories that never make it into history books. Not everyone’s life is a headline, not every story is told, but that doesn’t mean they don’t exist.

Layers of blue and vintage script come together in this piece, like fragments of voices carried by the wind. The sky watches, listens, holds these untold stories in its vastness. And maybe, just maybe, it remembers them all.

Day 23 - Blue Stretches

23/100 – The sky stretches endlessly, vast, open, infinite. And yet, how often do we see only what our minds allow?

In this piece, blue pieces run end to end, like an infinite horizon. But at the center, wrapped within a circle of banyan tree roots, the words “blue stretches” remain enclosed—a reminder of how easily we confine ourselves!

The sky has no edges, no borders. It asks us to look beyond, to expand, to break free. Maybe the only thing holding us back is the circle we’ve drawn around ourselves.

Day 24 - Fleeting & Free

24/100 – Clouds drift without asking where they’re going. Wildflowers bloom without waiting for permission. Nature moves, changes, and embraces freedom in every moment.

In this piece, soft layers of translucent papers, gauze, and lace create a sense of lightness, like something barely held in place. At the center, a wildflower grows within the circular roots, a quiet reminder that even within the confines of our minds, we can choose to be free.

The sky, the wind, the fleeting clouds—they all whisper the same truth: we can bloom, drift, and go wherever our soul takes us.

Day 25 - Wrapped in the Breath of the Sky

25/100 – There are moments when the sky feels so vast, it’s as if we are held within it—wrapped in its endless embrace. The air moves around us, gentle, steady, unseen, yet always there.

This piece holds that feeling. A small cluster of brown and blue rests at the center, grounded, while a delicate wildflower leans into the open space. And around it all, blue threads encircle the piece, like the quiet breath of the sky itself.

Maybe that’s all we need sometimes—to pause, to feel, to know that we are already held.

Day 26 - Beyond The Horizon

26/100 – Horizons are meant to be crossed. They stretch endlessly before us, but they are never the end—only the beginning of what lies beyond.

This piece is built with layered strips of paper and fabric, each one adding to the story of the landscape. At the center, a snippet roll runs from one edge to the other, like a continuous path leading forward. And resting above it all, a branch stands as a quiet reminder—there is always more beyond what we can see.

The horizon is not a limit. It is an invitation to keep going.

Day 27 - Sky Deep

27/100 – The sky isn’t just above us—it’s endless, vast, and deep in a way we can’t quite grasp.

pop of blue gauge bursts through the layers, like a glimpse of pure sky breaking through. Maybe that’s what it feels like to stand beneath an open sky—small, weightless, and part of something infinite.

If you enjoy experimenting with mixed media techniques like me, I have a collection of creative projects for you! From abstract mark making to textured collages and art journaling, explore a variety of tutorials that will spark your creativity.

This group of collages has been a journey through the colors, textures, and emotions of the sky. From soft, drifting clouds to the endless stretch of the horizon, each piece has been a quiet reflection on freedom, vastness, and the stories that unfold beneath the open sky.

As I worked through these pieces, layering scraps of blue and brown, weaving in branches and gauze, I found myself returning to the feeling of looking up—of wondering, of letting go, of knowing that the sky has no limits.

And maybe that’s what this entire 100-day project is about. Exploring, creating, letting each piece lead me somewhere new. Because just like the sky, art has no limits either.
