painting steps:

1. The sky

Start by blending the colors cadmium yellow, white and yellow ochre in the sky. Keep blending the colors into each other keeping lighter on top and darker towards the horizon. I added some burnt sienna to create the darkness towards the horizon.

2. Sky 2nd layer + Ocean background

Add another layer of same colors on top of the first layer of the sky. Then add the ocean background with a lighter tint of yellow.

3. Clouds + Sun

I added some clouds using burnt sienna and cadmium orange with small brush strokes. Once the background dries, add at the sun with white.

4. Sun reflection in ocean - layer 1

Now starting acrylic blending in horizontal direction in the ocean, keeping it lighter in the centre and darker on the sides.

5. Horizon line

Add a distant line in the horizon with black and burnt sienna.

6. Sun reflection in Ocean - layer 2

On top of the first layer, add another layer of reflection using white and creating small horizontal strokes.

7. Bamboo sticks

Start adding the first bamboo stick. Add a vertical line and add a zigzag line to create its reflection.

8. More sticks

Using the same process add more sticks. The distant ones are shorter keeping the perspective in mind.

9. birds + boat

We finish the painting by adding some more elements in the painting – some birds flying and a boat rowing.

And that’s it… just by following these 9 steps, you can now create your very own sunset seascape painting.
